What is the Night Rating -NR(A) qualification?
- Night Rating(A) allows you to fly during night time in Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC).
Flying VFR night is very different from flying VFR day and many pilots find it equally enjoyable. - NR(A) is a requirement for IR(A) and CPL(A).

- Night Rating consists of at least 5 hours of theoretical preparation and a minimum of 5 hours of flight training.
4 hours of practical flight training should be dual, including 1 hour night cross-country navigation exercise – the last hour of practical training must be a Solo flight and must include 5 full stop landings. You will learn how to prepare a Night flight, what is the minimum equipment required and how to handle the airplane during night. You will also review all the basic maneuvers learnt during the PPL(A) training.
What are the Night Rating course entry requirements?
The Night Rating – NR(A) course entry requirements are as follows:
- to be a PPL(A) holder
You need to be EASA Private Pilot License PPL(A) holder with valid Single Engine Piston SEP(A) qualification. - to be at least Class 2 Medical holder
You need to be physically fit for recreational flying (capable of holding a Pilot Medical Certificate Class 2).
What can I do with my Night Rating – NR(A)?
- Fly after sunset under VFR.
Once you complete your Night Rating training, you will get your NR(A) added on your EASA Private Pilot License – PPL(A). The Night Rating extends the privileges of PPL(A) to flying after sunset under VFR.
How can I get my Night Rating – NR(A)?
Step 1: Complete the theoretical training
The ground training consists of theoretical preparation for flight training and lays the foundation for your flight training. According to the EASA syllabus, the theoretical preparation consists of 5 hours with an instructor.
The course consists of interactive lessons with maximum usage of modern study materials and equipment. You can use our Computer Based Training (CBT) to prepare for lessons on self-study basis and then you will attend 5 hours of ground training with experienced instructors. You will be able to use our Library app, educational software and high-quality video materials
Step 2: Complete the practical flight training
The flight training is performed on a single engine piston (SEP) aircraft according to visual flight rules (VFR) at night. The training consists of at least 5 hours, out of which:
- 2 hours: local night flights reviewing basic manoeuvres, take-off and landing procedures. You will review all the basic maneuvers at night, such as steep turns, stalls, upset recovery and learn how to recover from any situation with partially reduced visual reference. You will also review every emergency situation at night and learn how to handle it.
- 2 hours: navigation cross-country night flight, during which you will learn how to navigate at night with visual reference and with radionavigation equipment and GPS.
- 1 hour: local solo night flight under supervision of the flight instructor on the ground including 5 take-offs and 5 landings.
There is not practical examination with an examiner at the end of Night Rating training.

The course price starts from 886 EUR. Training fees are covering the following items and services:
- Instructor time for ground school & practical training
- Plane rental, including fuel
