Common Questions

Get answers to frequently asked questions about transferring your PPL training.

What happens after I complete my checkride in Portugal?

You can complete the skill test in Portugal. However:

  • Because your licence must be issued based on original training documents, the issuance process may take longer if you remain in Portugal.
  • If you are able to travel, it is usually smoother and faster to complete the skill test in Prague, where the Authority handling your licence issuance is based.

Either way, we will assist you through the entire process.

I have a medical from Belgium / Germany / Sweden etc. How does this affect licence issuance?

You have two options:

Option 1 — Keep your current medical authority: You may request that the same Authority under which your medical was issued also issues your pilot licence. However, each CAA may have additional requirements—you must confirm directly with them.

Option 2 — Transfer your medical to the Czech CAA: You can transfer your medical records to the Czech Authority. Important: Medical transfers take time, so we recommend initiating this early.

Can I do my Class 1 or Class 2 medical in Portugal?

There are medical centers in Lisbon, but pricing and waiting times vary. Availability must be confirmed directly with the clinic. If needed, our team will assist in checking options upon request.

Do I need ICAO English or RT? Can I obtain them through Flying Academy?

Yes — if you do not have your ICAO English proficiency or Radiotelephony (RT) licence, we can support you in obtaining them. The exact process depends on which Authority you want your licence issued under.

Will my previous training hours transfer?

Yes, all documented training hours will be credited according to EASA regulations. Our Head of Training will review your logbook and training records to ensure proper credit for all qualifying hours.

How quickly can I start flying after arrival?

Most students can begin flying within days of arrival, pending completion of paperwork, medical validation, and instructor assignment. We work to minimize any delays.

Do you provide accommodation assistance?

Yes, we provide pre-vetted accommodation options near our training base. We can assist with booking arrangements that fit your budget and preferences.

Will I need to repeat theoretical training?

If your theoretical knowledge credits are still valid under EASA regulations, no additional theory training is required. If credits have expired, we’ll advise the most efficient path to compliance.
